"Facing Our Truth: Six 10-minute Plays on Trayvon, Race, and Privilege" is directed by LAPC Theatre Professor Shaheen Vaaz. These ten-minute plays were first commissioned by The New Black Fest in response to the killing of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal George Zimmerman. Since that time, public incidents of violence against black men and women have been increasingly exposed. The plays are as diverse in style and point-of-view as their authors, but each play takes a complex and human approach to understanding the dynamics that lead to fear and fracture our nation. The play’s purpose is to incite serious discussion in our collective communities around issues of racial injustice, systemic violence, and white privilege.
